SoftWear Automation Inc, is developing fully automated production lines for robotic cutting and sewing of garments. This is achieved through the use of cutting and sewing based on machine vision, robotics, and computing. SoftWear Automationâs technology would lead the conversion of a labor-intensive industry with annual imports of $100 billion to one that is capital-intensive and economical. Sewing would become high tech and lead a return of manufacturing jobs to the US.
The US imports $100 billion in sewn products annually, including $75 billion in garments alone. Clothing companies have traditionally left the US markets to chase cheaper labor around the globe. By utilizing SoftWearâs automated sewing work-cell, US manufacturers would be able to match the overseas cost of labor, with added advantages including faster order delivery, flexibility for design changes and optimal inventory levels
