Building out from on a materials science breakthrough developed at Cornell University by the company's founder and CTO, Mezmeriz is working on the design and manufacture of Micro-electromechanical System (MEMS) mirrors and mirror modules based on a novel carbon fiber materials platform. The unique material properties of carbon fibers permit, for the first time, the development of micro-mirrors that can simultaneously deflect through large angles and reach high scanning speeds. Mezmeriz is currently working with partners to integrate their carbon fiber micro-mirror modules into high definition, wide-angle projectors that are about the size of a matchbox and that are designed to be embedded into mobile phones, laptops, video players, and smartphones. This technology will enable gesture UI, 3D depth photography, and interactive projection.
