First Line Furniture designs and builds prototypes of bullet resistant tables that convert to protective shields in active shooter scenarios. In the event of a lockdown, the horizontal table tops transitions to a vertical shield by pulling a custom designed handle on the underside of the table. The horizontal table top measures 60 inches long and 30 inches wide. When the converted to a vertical shield, the combination of the table top and the modesty panel provides a shield that is 60 inches long and 48 inches from the floor to its top. This provides increased protection in the form of an object that is standard in conference rooms, classrooms, offices and mess halls. The table top and the modesty guard are rated NIJ level 3 and made from only UL752 â Level 8 Material. In laymanâs terms, this material was designed to defeat a projectile through a process of energy absorption through controlled delamination and energy dissipation. In contrast to metal barriers, these panels are designed to prevent ricochet of the projectile as well as spalling on the non-threat side of the bullet resistant panel. The material transfers the energy of the bullet across the width of the panel. Once the internal plies of the material have begun to delaminate, additional shots become progressively easier to defeat because the energy is more readily absorbed by the lamina
