Propose to develop an adaptive forward-facing cavity nose (AFFCN) dome component that will enable hypersonic interceptor missiles (HIM) to control spontaneous bow shock oscillations (BSO) in order to reduce aero-optic effects on the dome to improve precision guidance capacity of forward looking seekers. The proposed fundamental research on AFFCN will lead to new mechanism to modulate BSO for efficient protection from aero-thermal heating on the dome, and reduce nose drag and ablation in hypervelocity flight.
