MELD Manufacturing Corporation -- spun out of Aeroprobe Corporation -- has developed a manufacturing solution and process for the building, joining, coating, and repairing of materials. The MELD technology is a solid-state process that can print parts without having to melt metal. Applications including additive manufacturing, coating, repairing, joining, adding features, and creating metal matrix composites (MMCs) and custom metals. The MELD process is a no-melt, open-atmosphere process that proceeds high-quality materials with lower energy requirements and faster than conventional processes. The company offers both machines that utilize their technologies as well as contract manufacturing and additional services. In June 2023 MELD- pioneer leader in Additive Friction Stir Deposition (AFSD) technology - announced a strategic partnership with Mazak MegaStir Corporation having recognized expertise in friction stir welding tools. Collaboration will enable MELD exclusively to offer tools and tool holders specifically designed for the AFSD process (also known as Friction Stir Additive Manufacturing (FSAM)). The AFSD process, patented by MELD Manufacturing, has had impact in the area of additive manufacturing by combining the advantages of friction stir welding with material deposition capabilities.
