All objectives of this topic are met by 1) a transmitter based on switch-mode mixer modulator (SM3) technology, and 2) an agile mixer-first receiver with a very high linearity front-end supporting both Frequency Hopping (FH) and Direct Sequence (DS) spread spectrum correlation. Transmitter linearity expectations are set by prototypes that operate with 16,384-QAM signals. Fast FH operation across two decades of frequency is achieved by matching new direct digital frequency synthesis (DDFS) technology with the multi-decade bandwidth of the SM3. DS spreading and despreading are supported. Both the transmitter and receiver are modulation agnostic within the specified signal bandwidths, including 4G and 5G OFDM signals, making this transceiver the first true Digital Sampling Radio (DSR). Only software changes are needed for any feature. The hardware remains universal in all applications. This DSR design enables communications with extreme maneuverability through the EM spectrum. This results from the combination of next generation capabilities in power efficiency, data rate, and multi-decade frequency agility of the MIRACLE DSR. MIRACLE combines a Direct Polar circuit architecture and Gallium Nitride device technology to simultaneously deliver power efficiency, bandwidth efficiency, and spectrum agility in a single digital-to-RF-at-power module.
