Founded as Vitanova Biological -- now doing business as Vitanova Biomedical - the firm is structured around the further development and implementation of proprietary intellectual property that has proven successful in killing cancer in vitro. Founded in by two University of Texas at San Antonio alumni, the firm had been a JLab client and is an Alumni of JLab Houston. Involved in developing drug delivery platform to treat cancer, principals of the firm have developed a novel technique to use photo activation of a caged H+ carrier, o-nitrobenzaldehyde (NBA), to produce significant reductions in pHi causing rapid apoptosis (programmed cell death) within the cancer tumor. Principals of te firm are currently this proprietary delivery platform -- called Light-Activated Intracellular Acidosis (photodynamic therapy) -- in pre-clinical trials using photodynamic therapy to treat and kill aggressive breast cancer cells.
