It has been almost 7 decades since Bell Labs demonstrated the first photovoltaic solar cell and - only four years later - NASA launched solar panels into space. In collaboration with University of Toledo, in 1984, Solar Cells Inc commercialized thin-film Cadmium Telluride solar panels, later resulting in the formation of First Solar Inc (FSLR NASDAQ). Today, 40% of the domestic utility-scale PV solar market (expected to reach 60% in the next few years) is CdTe technology powered. In short, CdTe Solar PV modules have proven themselves to be the most robust, powerful, longest lasting solar technology. For what is the fisr time, Toledo Solar now brings this will-proven technology to the residential and commercial building markets and have brought to use condition next generation transparent CdTe solar films. Firm is also now developing high-output transparent windows for the building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) market, and high-output solar products for the electric vehicle automotive integrated photovoltaics (AIPV) market. It is not clear if the $8.8M award by DOE to Toledo Solar in 2023 is SBIR - an amount to work on production of See-Through Solar Windows as a near-term solution for Net Positive Buildings but .....
