Microphysiological systems MPS development has advanced as a means to reduce refineand replace animal studies to improve models of human diseaseUsage of MPS systems for such applications will require standardization of technology components Towards this effort National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences NCATS investigators have identified the need for a universal medium for supporting the survival and support of multiple tissues in human induced pluripotent stem cell iPSCMPS constructs simultaneously LaCella stem cell and culture reagent manufacturer has commercialized proprietary medium products for forming fat bone and cartilage LaCell and Obatala Sciences propose addressing this need with the objectives of demonstrating that its media products can support survival and tissue formation of human iPSCand that multiple products can be combined systematically to optimize a medium that supports multiple tissuesWe anticipate that an optimal medium can be discovered by altering four key components of tissue formation and this will support at leastcell survival and support one tissue fordays and two tissues simultaneously for days Successful development of such tools will help to address the translational ethical societal and scientific hurdles pertaining to the development of new human therapies
