Involving a team of Goergia Tech biomedical and mechancical engineers, Ethos Medical has developed the Iris, a needle guidance system that enables practitioners to navigate needles into the spine at bedside for procedures like epidurals and spinal taps: ultra-flexible, real-time needle guidance at the bedside. The team completed a project developing a different spinal access technology for a prominent hospital in the Southeast. Through their experiences observing procedures and interviewing clinicians at numerous hospitals around the region, the founders discovered intense clinical and financial needs for a real-time image guidance solution for spinal taps (among other procedures like vascular access, biopsies, and joint injections). In response to these needs, Ethos has developed the Irisâ¢, an ultrasound-based instrument guidance system to assist clinicians with performing needle-based interventional procedures at the bedside.
