Materials for modern nuclear reactors should meet multiple requirements- They have to be strong enough to reliably provide temperature oxidation, and be compatible with other nuclear reactor materials- Only the steels and alloys listed in Section III Division 5 of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code are permitted for usage in nuclear reactors, but they may not be resistive enough against chemically aggressive coolants molten fluorides or lead- bismuth eutectic (LBE)- There are materials that possess high resistance against corrosion in coolants, but they are not strong enough to be used as structural materials in nuclear reactors and are not permitted for such usage by Section III Division 5 of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code- These chemically stable steels/alloys may be applied as thick layers onto the surface of standard nuclear reactor structural materials and form bi-layered laminates that still correspond to the above-mentioned standard requirements and also possess higher resistance against nuclear reactor molten coolants-
