APO Technologies, spun out of a partnership between the University of Pittsburgh's Innovation Center and Philadelphia's University City Science Center, aims to develop and commerzialize a sensor-assisted way to quickly and more accurately calibrate and align lower prosthetic limbs. The firm's product, HD Protractor, features a calibration device that is connected to a smart phone application that can provide real time information to view and share the calibration adjustments. Currently, there are no standards for measuring and documenting these adjustments, resulting in falls, tissue breakdown, and increased clinical visits for patients.
