Multispectral sensor systems incorporating sensor fusion technology are used for a variety of defense applications including missile seekers for next generation smart munitions. These systems often require multiple focal plane arrays (FPA), overly complex optics, significant off board sensor fusion technology, and are typically expensive. The Department of Defense (DoD) needs low SWaP-C technology that enables smart munitions to effectively operate using visual navigation over long distances and featureless terrain in a Global Positioning System (GPS) denied environments. The advanced sensor and processing technology that will be developed on this program is anticipated to provide a robust high performance solution for multiple concept of operations (CONOPS) at low SWaP-C.Our Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) sponsors initial application focus is hypersonic munitions and Group 1-2-3 unmanned aerial systems (UAS).
