FreEnt Technologies, Inc., A2Z Innovations, Inc., and the University of Alabama Aerospace Research Center (UAH/ARC) have teamed together to design, develop, and perform ground-based-demonstrations of a High-Speed Simultaneous Multiple Object Detection (HS-SMOD) System for MDA. The HSSMOD system uses a simple but innovative technique of a passive fiber-optic grid and high-speed COTS opto-electronic detectors to measure the initial and subsequent hit points of high-velocity impacts of Kill Vehicles (KVs) and/or warhead fragments having relative impact velocities greater than 1 km/s. The patented passive technique does not have an upper end on impact velocity measurement. The HS-SMOD optical fiber grid concept can be configured to cover many different target shapes, sizes and configurations for MDA HDS needs. Our team will determine the ideal combination of optical fiber, detectors, and electronics for optimum performance and reliability. The team will develop software for real-time data capture, telemetry interface, and post-test processing. This effort is to produce a prototype HS-SMOD system integrated with a representative test article of that to demonstrate its capability to meet MDA requirements in a flight test environment.Approved for Public Release | 18-MDA-9522 (23 Feb 18)
