NEMS/MEMS Works LLC was formed to serve as a vehicle for the transfer of new technologies from the laboratory to the marketplace. To achieve this objective the firm has formed a unique partnership with the University of Missouri - Columbia to allow exclusive licensing of technologies developed by the Gangopadhyay Research Group, and access to many university resources. NEMS/MEMS is a member of NTEC (NanoTechnology Enterprise Consortium), recently formed to promote nanotechnology research and product development. The firm has created a new nanomaterial with unique physical and chemical properties - Copper (II) Oxide (CuO) Nanorods. Nanomaterials have a higher surface area in comparison with conventional materials. This is a characteristic that can have significant changes on their physical and chemical properties. The CuO nanorods have been designed for optimized use as an oxidizer in nanothermite composition. The CuO/Al nanoparticle composition was tested, with significantly better performance observed. Applications of NEMS/MEMS Copper (II) Oxide Nanorods are not limited in the field of high-speed chemical reaction. Copper (II) Oxide nanorods can also be used in electrochemistry application, as a chemical catalyst agent, sensor application, medical application, optical application, fine abrasive material, color agent at ceramic manufactures and as a thermoplastics reinforcement.
