In November of 2012 rPath's intellectual propety and most of its employees were aquired by SAS Institute. rPath is pioneering the software appliance approach for application distribution and management. rPath was founded with a mission to simplify the delivery and consumption of software innovation. Vendors and customers alike spend far too much money managing the complex interactions between applications and the underlying infrastructure that supports them. We believe software appliances are the answer. Just as the rise in availability and performance of the Internet gave birth to Software as a Service, so too will virtualization give birth to software appliances as a preferred form factor for application consumption. Virtualization decouples the application from the hardware and allows a single configuration of the application to run on any system. Software appliances eliminate the hassles of the general purpose operating system and free vendors and customers to focus on application value instead of technology management.
