In February 2023, it was announced that Azavea Inc had been acquired by Alexandria VA based Element 84 with the orbjective of providing comprhensive, impact-focused geopspatial solutions. Annoucement at the time noted that work conducted at both firms addresses the processing, visualization, and analysis of geospatial and Earth observation data such that the two entities share a commitment to civic, social, and environmental impact. In addition, Element 84 and Azavea both prioritize open technology ecosystems and contribute significantly to open standards and open source software. It was further announced that the acquiring firm will move operations to Azaveea - the acquired firm - cfacilities. Azavea Inc had specialized in the creation of geographic web and mobile software, as well as geospatial analysis services to enhance decision-making. The firm is committed to working on projects with strong social value in order to promote the emergence of more vibrant and sustainable communities, enabling their clients to answer complex questions in a wide variety of domain, including natural resource planning, neighborhood revitalization, sustainable growth and economic development, crime analysis, real estate property analysis, redistricting, political advocacy, and cultural resources management. The firm analyzes data geographically and creates tools for publishing data for the public to visualize and manipulate. For more complex projects, Azavea has extensive experience building applications that perform raster and vector calculations optimized to run across distributed servers or on GPUs that conduct spatial statistical analysis and visualization, and automate models of man-made and natural systems.
