Anchored in work developed by the firm's principals and licensed from the University of Alabama Birmingham, CNine is working creation of a rapid, simple test to distinguish bacterial meningitis from meningitis caused by viral infections - the latter being generally not serious and treated symptomatically; the former - in contrast - being serious and potentially life-threatening. Existing tests require a 1-2 day hospitalization and have a high percentage of false positives. The CNine test also offers the advantage of not requirng refrigeration - thereby enablng its use especially in lesser developed areas of sub-Saharan Africa, India and Asia.
