Public Profile
Gross-Wen Technologies (GWT) is commercializing an algal wastewater treatment technology developed at Iowa State University. Called the Revolving Algal Biofilm Treatment System, the technology is able to remove nitrogen, phosphorus and other pollutants from municipal wastewaters. The algae biomass that is produced can then be used as a slow-release algal fertilizer. The GWT process is not only sustainable but also carbon negative. With three (3) pending patents, the system has achieved over 10x higher treatment rates than conventional algal treatment systems. Having a level of SBIR involvement with USDA soon afetr founding, the firm has been more effective in accessing US Department of Energy for federal funding to their needs and capabilities.
