Acquisition further broadens PASCO's award-winning line of hands-on science education solutions that foster inquiry-based learning in K-12 and higher education
Roseville, Calif. -- March 8, 2016 -- PASCO® Scientific, a leader in 21st century science education, today announced it has acquired Ergopedia, a Boston-based developer of interactive technologies that enable hands-on learning in science and engineering classrooms. The company also announced that Ergopedia co-founder Dr. Tom Hsu will join PASCO in the newly created position of chief curriculum officer.
Founded in 2004 by Hsu and Dr. Manos Chaniotakis, both former research scientists at MIT, Ergopedia is known for creating innovative science-learning tools supported by supplemental curriculum, e-books, interactive simulations, lesson plans, test item banks and more --everything teachers need to stimulate interest and learning in the STEM courses. Its most recent release, Essential Physics, a comprehensive high school physics program, has been adopted in multiple states and is already being used by more than 45,000 students across the country.
"The merger with Ergopedia significantly extends PASCO's ability to serve the university and secondary science education markets with outstanding standards-based curriculum, cutting-edge technology, and versatile lab equipment that provides hands-on experience using tools like those used by professional scientists and engineers," said Steven Korte, CEO of PASCO. "With the addition of Ergopedia's proprietary software and an e-book optimized for learning, PASCO is uniquely positioned with a total science learning solution that will appeal to educators and education ministries across the globe."
Ergopedia co-founder Hsu said, "Together with PASCO, our technology provides a learning solution that brings the advantages of interactive, enhanced learning to every classroom, today and into the future. It's more than just equipment or books. It's a complete learning system that engages all types of learners by integrating a thoroughly up-to-date curriculum, interactive simulation, interactive mathematics, assessment, and the best, most affordable hands-on equipment available to schools today."
