Acquired in 2007 by Nuance Communications - itself variously involved in SBIR from its earliest days - VoiceSignal had concentrated on creating small footprint, embedded speech solutions for mobile devices having limited memory and processing power: mobile phones, PDAs and other handheld devices. Involving a team of wireless industry professionals, including world-class speech scientists, senior hardware and software engineers, and world wide sales and marketing organization, VoiceSignal offered a range of speech capabilities, including speaker-independent name dialing and contact lookup, vocabulary dictation, email, and SMS messaging. The company also offered VSuite, a voice dialing and command and control application; VoiceMode, a speech-to-text (dictation) application that runs on mobile phones; and VSpeak, a text-to-speech application, capable of running within the resource constraints of a mobile device.
