Orolia announces a strategic partnership with the American Techno-Sciences, Inc (TSi), one of the world leaders in ground infrastructures for COSPAS-SARSAT international search and rescue systems.
By entering into this agreement, the two world leaders will have the capability to control the both ends of the COSPAS-SARSAT system, from the sending of alerts via Orolia's distress beacons to the localization of beacons and the management of rescue missions via the ground segment supplied by TSi.
Paris, May 9th 2013 - Orolia (NYSE Alternext Paris - FR0010501015 - ALORO), world specialist in critical GPS applications, and TSi (Techno-Siences, Inc), one of the world leaders in solutions and the MEOSAR COSPAS-SARSAT ground infrastructure, announced today that they have formed a strategic partnership to reinforce their competitive position and to accelerate the commercial deployment of the MEOSAR infrastructures, the new generation of the COSPAS-SARSAT system.
"Orolia is present in the four main market segments of distress beacons - aeronautical, marine, military and land, through the FastFind, Kannad Aviation, SARBE and McMurdo brands…. each year, distress beacons allow the rescue of more than 2,000 people " says Jean-Yves Courtois, CEO of the Orolia Group. "This partnership between our COSPAS-SARSAT distress beacon business unit and one of the world leaders in ground systems will allow us to reinforce our position in the government & defence markets. As the new generation of the COSPAS-SARSAT system, MEOSAR satellites and ground stations will improve the ability to detect and localise people in a situation of distress in real time, and with greater precision. We are happy to establish a strong partnership which will benefit both of our businesses, so we can develop new opportunities together, and improve the rescue chain at the world level".
Jean-Luc Abaziou, CEO of TSi, adds: "The advanced technology from the Orolia group, combined with their industry knowledge and strong international presence, will allow us to expand our competitive position and visibility in Europe by enabling us to offer our clients a complete solution."
The COSPAS SARSAT World Search and Rescue System
Wherever an accident takes place, on board a boat, an aeroplane or a mountain, the rescue services are always confronted with the same problem: rapidly and accurately locating the potential victims. Contrary to popular belief, being equipped with a Smartphone or a cell phone cannot always guarantee that you will be saved. By sending the position of the people in difficulties automatically or manually to search and rescue teams, distress beacons allow the rescue chain to be improved and increase the victims' chance of survival. In this way, thanks to the beacons operating via the COSPAS-SARSAT satellites, dedicated to search and rescue operations, it means that almost 31,000 people in the course of over 8,300 accidents have been saved.
About Techno-Sciences, Inc.
For over 25 years, TSi has been an industry leader in providing COSPAS-SARSAT technology and support services. TSi systems are in continuous operation in more than 20 countries worldwide. As the COSPAS-SARSAT program transitions from the existing LEO/GEO based systems to the next generation MEOSAR system, TSi's key role in the research and development of state-of-the-art Search and Rescue systems has continued with its development of the world's first prototype MEOLUT, which successfully passed NASA's Proof-of-Concept testing in January 2009. That success was recognized by NOAA[1] which selected TSi in a competitive procurement to provide the U.S. its first operational ready MEOLUT now installed in Hawaii, and more recently to provide its second MEOLUT system for its Florida site.
