Phase I

Contract Number: N00014-16-P-3004
Start Date: 11/2/2015    Completed: 9/2/2016
Phase I year
2016
Phase I Amount
$79,893
This first phase will be the beginning of a complete and comprehensive program that will improve UUV detection and classification through advanced processing methods, data fusion and sensor integration. This will enhance current and future harbor protection systems to counter the emerging underwater threat. Phase 1 will result in a system design that will be developed based on a thorough assessment of existing architectures, sensors, fusion techniques and integration methods and leverage the institutional experience of NDI and our teammates. The design will include fully documented assumptions and identify areas of highest technical risk. The Phase I Option includes provision for initial mitigation of the most significant of these risks. Although initially targeted at SSPs current WQX program, the techniques identified and proposed by NDI in this SBIR will be applicable to all similar sensors and will provide additional utility that will increase overall system performance. The work identified under Phase I (and its subsequent option) will set out a development framework that allows for low-risk incremental capability delivery that gives rapid, tangible, enhancements to existing systems at the earliest opportunity.

Benefit:
Not only is there a significant defense market but also one of equal of even greater potential in the civilian sector. NDI is currently conducting business with the Nuclear Power and Energy industry. Our efforts in this domain will parallel those in DoD, advances in one will be reflected in the other. Because of our strategic relationships with sonar manufacturers across the world, our commercialization plan encompasses addressing the upgrade market for sensors that are already fielded by these companies throughout the world.
