Sol-Gel Solutions LLC developed an innovative material and process, Silica-titania Composites (STC), for air and water purification. A very favorable commercialization assessment initiated by the UF-NASA Environmental Systems Commercialization Space Technology Center (ES CSTC) was obtained from the Research Triangle Institute on the STC technology, which prompted UF to patent this technology. As Dr. Mazyck was committed to seeing the successful commercialization of the technology, he decided to pursue the formation of a business that Units_Option3.jpgwould focus on this objective. Hence, Sol-gel Solution, LLC was started in Gainesville, FL in 2004 by Dr. Mazyck and several angel investors. Sol-gel exclusively licensed the technology from UF and focused on further developing the STC technology for a variety of applications, including mercury removal from the chlor-alkali and coal-fired power industries and for indoor air purification, with the longer term goal of commercialization. Since the companys inception in 2004, Sol-gel has successfully commercialized the STC technology in the chlor-alkali industry for mercury removal from caustic exhaust and continues to focus efforts to commercialize the technology in the coal-fired power industry
