Navitas Systems LLC a leading provider of energy-enabled system solutions, energy storage products, and power electronics for commercial, industrial and government agency customers, announced its agreement with A123 Systems as the exclusive distributor/technical experts of A123 Nanophosphate® Cells, Modules and Systems for US Military and Government applications.
"It has been one year since we acquired the Government R &D team of A123 Systems. In the space of those 12 months, our now-named Navitas Advanced Solutions Group has developed several new lithium battery systems for various industrial and government applications. Given the high quality legacy of A123's Nanophosphate technology, we've had several government and military customers seek to purchase these cells. It is important, since the acquisition of A123 Systems a year ago by Wanxiang, that Government sources have access to these American-based battery products. So we're pleased to formally launch the agreement we reached one year ago, and are delighted to be the exclusive U.S. supplier of A123 cells and systems to U.S. government and military customers," said Navitas Systems' Chairman and Founder Alan ElShafei.
Navitas Systems' unique niche is that they are both cell and chemistry-agnostic, selecting the ideal cell to embed in its battery systems based on the rigorous demands of a particular application. The Navitas Systems agreement with A123 Systems is meant to ensure supply chain and technology transfer is supported per the request of the U.S. government during last year's acquisition approval. The scope of the 3 year exclusive agreement covers a broad range of applications within the Department of Defense, as well as in the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of State.
Web links have been established between the two companies so product requests for A123 products by government web site visitors can be quickly channeled and responded to.
"A123 is pleased to support Navitas as our channel to US government customers," said Jason Forcier, CEO of A123 Systems, LLC. "The battery cell and module products we continue to produce in our Michigan facilities offer outstanding performance and value for the government applications integrated by Navitas."
