Montana Microbial Products LLC operates as an R&D entity commercializing microbial products and technology with an array of products including enzymes for fuel alcohol production, integrated cellulose and starch process, barley protein concentrate for fish feed and bacteria to control plant diseases. In collaboration with Montana State University, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, USDA and TechRanch, the firm has been working on a project to develop an enhanced plant protein to replace fishmeal now used in diets of farmed fish: anew class of biological disease control agents to production agriculture. The goals of the projects include developing systemic disease resistance in sugar beets, establishing the basis for expanding into the global fungicide market and conducting continued research to expand potential markets.. A sustainable land-vased crop, Barley is the lowest cost major grain and produced in large quantities in many countries. It is non-GMO, requires less fertilizer and fewer pesticides than other grains while also growing in cold climates. The BPC process uses barley now fed to livestock and does not compete with human food. We produce BPC using an enzymatic process without harsh solvents or chemicals. BPC can be produced from local barley supplies close to feed manufacturers, reducing the carbon footprint associated with transportation of other protein ingredients. Montana Microbial Products (MMP) has developed a Barley Protein Concentrate - (BPC) - a superior aquaculture protein. Independent feed trials = conducted with a variety of fish specie - have successfully replaced fishmeal and shown significant competitive advantages over other plant base proteins. BPC is now US FDA approved with AAFCO definition for use in aquaculture feeds and shown to be nutritionally equivalent to fishmeal in research and commercial scale feeding trials in Trout, Atlantic salmon, Coho salmon, Red drum, Artic Char, Sea Bream, and Cobia.
