AOptix Technologies, Inc., (Campbell, CA) is installing its automated face and iris passenger-recognition systems at Dubai International Airport, one of the world's busiest. The systems will be installed at 100 "Smart Gates" and counters at Terminal 3, a major entry/exit processing point for passengers traveling through the United Arab Emirates.
"AOptix systems are expected to dramatically speed passengers through immigration while ensuring the highest level of security," states an announcement from AOptix. "The airport plans to expand this system to all four of its terminals and process some 75 million passengers a year through immigration by 2014." In 2012, more than 57 million passengers passed through the airport. AOptix developed an iris-recognition system called Insight® that can capture and authenticate a single iris image (one eye) in two seconds, or two eyes in four seconds. This system enables recognition of 15 people per minute. At the heart of AOptix's biometric-imaging technology lies adaptive-optics knowhow and techniques that were advanced by the company's work on MDA Phase I and Phase II SBIR projects during the early 2000s.
AOptix provides identity-verification and wireless communications solutions, based on patented optical technologies. The company's verification solutions involve iris recognition and other biometrics techniques, while communications products include long-range, ultra-high bandwidth wireless tools to alleviate mobile backhaul congestion and other network chokepoints.
