Industrial plants and food-processing centers are benefiting from an appliqué that reduces corrosion and wear commonly found in building structures, heavy machines, and food-processing tools.

The FluoroGrip® appliqué, developed by Integument Technologies, Inc. (Tonawanda, NY), is an adhesive-backed material made from fluoropolymers, a plastic substance known for chemical and heat resistance. Integument quickly found success selling its appliqué to public works departments that require a simple and inexpensive solution to thwart vandals spray-painting graffiti on bridges and building façades.

Integument is now selling FluoroGrip to major industrial companies that need protection against corrosion in concrete elevator shafts and furnace ducts as well as on flooring or loading docks where hazardous chemicals are stored or transported. Another proven market for FluoroGrip includes metal bins and refrigeration units used by the food-processing industry.

Through a 2002 Phase II SBIR contract, MDA funded Integument and its partner DACCO SCI, Inc., to develop a corrosion-protection solution that could be used for missile defense technologies.

Integument Technologies develops and manufactures engineered fluoropolymer systems, films, and coatings that protect against extreme temperatures and harsh environments.
