Cambridge, MA, December 5, 2012 -- Life Care Centers of America, a nationwide health care company operating or managing more than 200 nursing facilities, and Myomo, Inc., provider of myoelectric arm braces, have entered into an agreement whereby Life Care therapists will be certified to provide a higher level of patient care to stroke survivors. Myomo will deliver its leading-edge products to selected Life Care facilities and certify Physical and Occupational Therapists on how to treat stroke patients with its devices.
Clemente Aquino, VP-Rehab Practice Standards of Life Care, stated that Life Care is proud to be able to offer new, advanced rehabilitation services to its patients who have suffered a stroke or other neurological injury. "There are 795,000 strokes each year in the United States, and many of these individuals are left with hemi-paresis -- partial paralysis of one side of the body, with loss of ability to move an arm or leg. With the Myomo mPower arm brace, our therapists will be able to assist these patients in their rehabilitation at specially-designated Life Care facilities across the country. Life Care has always been a leader in patient care, and this partnership with Myomo will expand our service offerings."

The Myomo mPower 1000 Clinical Kit incorporates a noninvasive myoelectric platform technology in a wearable device that enables a patient to initiate-and-control their own motion. The portable arm brace has been proven effective in helping with functional repetitive tasks practice during therapy and assists patients in daily living activities in the home. The mPower 1000 technology does not use electrical impulses or stimulation. It reads weak muscle signal and sends it to the device's computer which allows patients to move their affected arm.
