Logos Technologies Completes 1000 Hours of Biofuel Plant Operation

VISALIA, Calif., May 14, 2013 -- Logos Technologies, LLC and partner Edeniq have successfully completed more than 1000 hours of continuous operation at their Corn‐to‐Cellulosic Migration (CCM) pilot plant in Visalia, Calif.

Employing proprietary technology developed by Edeniq, the plant converts one metric ton per day of non-food corn stover into ethanol. Performed on a commercial scale, this conversion process would result in a domestically produced, renewable and attractively priced fuel with low greenhouse gas emissions and a small carbon footprint.

"Given its size and the technology we're demonstrating there, the CCM plant is a-one-of-a-kind facility," said Dan Derr, the Logos Technologies biofuel program manager. "We believe that operating a pilot plant of this size is an important step toward the commercialization of cellulosic ethanol biofuel in the United States."

Supported by American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds from the Department of Energy's BioEnergy Technology Office, Logos Technologies managed the design, construction and 1000-hour demonstration of the CCM plant.

Located at Edeniq's Visalia, Calif. headquarters, the facility first started producing ethanol in March 2012. Operations include innovative mechanical pretreatment, saccharification, fermentation, distillation, liquids-solids separation and integrated process water recycling.

Edeniq contributed innovative, enabling technology including the Cellunator® for mechanical pretreatment and advanced saccharification and fermentation biochemistry.

The next steps, said Derr, are to commercialize technology successfully demonstrated at the CCM plant and develop other advanced concepts with the aim of initiating large-scale cellulosic facilities.
