Lee Pearson has a passion for engineering, science, and electronics. After completing his undergraduate work at BYU, Lee Pearson went on to receive his PhD in physics at Utah State University then found a career in research and development for companies like Hercules Aerospace Division and ATK. Spanning an impressive 30 year career in the field allowed him to gain valuable experience with ultrasonic inspection for rocket motor components. Dr. Pearson has always dreamed of starting his own business.
Lee Pearson, an entrepreneur and inventor started up Box Elder Innovations, LLC in 2011 as a way to fund different projects including internal ballistics software, custom lighting systems, ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation (NDE) systems, and custom algae bioreactors. The internal ballistics software targets individuals that reload their own ammunition, place value on high precision, and participate in hunting activities or target competition shooting. In addition to this software, Dr. Pearson is developing an electronic shooting target that can track bullet patterns. Dr. Pearson and his company have the support of the Box Elder Resource Center. While there are risks involved with starting your own business, Dr. Pearson has appreciated the freedom of time that he enjoys with his wife, sons and daughter, and especially, his grandchildren. When asked what the biggest challenge of running your own business was, Dr. Pearson immediately mentioned marketing.
