BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- One of Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter's initiatives to boost government partnerships with industry and academia is dishing out $850,000 to projects designed to boost Idaho's economy and create jobs.
The Idaho Global Entrepreneurial Mission Tuesday announced it had selected the winning projects from 18 applicants.
The biggest single grant totals $250,000 for Idaho State University's partnership with TriboTEX and Campbell Scientific on a machining center that allows for sharp images of very small objects.

University of Idaho, with partners URS Corp. and Avista Corp., will get $115,000 to experiment with a new kind of concrete aimed at shoring up soils.
And the U of I is also getting $150,000 for its partnership with Micron Technology Inc., to help measure, model and develop techniques for new, high-speed computer memory products.
