Public Profile
In 2001, MgB2, a compound that was well known to chemists, was announced as superconducting up to 39 Kelvin. Building on this discovery, Hyper Tech looked to to use of the compound to create a high-performing, low cost superconducting wire. Hyper Tech developed and patented a continuous tube forming and filling (CTFF) process for the manufacturing of a powder metallurgy-based MgB2 superconductor wire. Contracts with DOD, NASA , NIH and MIT propelled Hyper Tech into commercializing MgB2 superconductor wire. Potential applications for NASA include stator coils for the all-electric aircraft, magnesium diboride superconductors where light weight power components are required: generators, motors, transformers, inductors, power conditioning equipment and ADR coils. Other magnet applications that magnesium diboride wires can be considered for are magnetic bearings, actuators, MHD magnets, propulsion engines, magnetic shielding in space, and magnetic launch devices. Commercial Applications include stator coils for the all-electric aircraft, magnesium diboride superconductors
