Spencer Industries proposes development, prototyping and test of the Lightweight Aircraft Tiedown to replace the legacy TD-1 device, centering on a new design Tensioner device and utilizing Kevlar/Firetex webbing as the restraint media. The Lightweight Aircraft Tiedown design provides substantial weight reduction (50% of current TD-1 device), enhanced ease of use, improved quality of life and safety for sailors, and improved reliability and maintainability. In form, fit, and function, the new tiedown is a complete replacement for the existing TD-1 lashings, and requires no changes to either ship deck fittings or aircraft.
Benefit: Improved operational efficiency by allowing aircraft lashing to be performed faster and more effectively. Improved quality of life and safety for users based on reduced weight and ease of use. Lightweight and easily handled. Realizes weight savings for ships equipped with the new device. Fully compatible with the salt-water environment, and requires low maintenance.
